Zugsyn.com & Syn
Ryan: First question I got is, do you feel you have to work harder to win over a rap influenced fan base on Psychopathic, or do you play what you play and let the real fans come out?
Syn: We play what we play and let the real thing come out. You know, recording the album we never thought like, alright we are going to make sure that the people into wicked rap are going to like, but you know juggalos normally don't like anything other than that. So, no.. we recorded a juggalo rock and roll album and that was it, we put it out the way it was and you work harder to get over for the juggalos, yea of course you gotta. You gotta put on a dope ass show otherwise they will be like, "fuckin bitch boy up there runnin' around doing nothing"
Ryan: The song “Idiot” was cut from the album, it was played at the listening party that you guys had in Detroit back in September....
Syn: We took it off the album because of sampling works and shit.
Ryan: Just kind of like an early project that didn't quite make it?
Syn: yeah, “Idiot” came off the album, it was like the label's call... I liked that song alot, it was the shit. We had a Phishhead sample and stuff like that, did you hear the track?
Ryan/Crystal: No
Syn: It will come out later though, we'll let it out. Mike P didn't think it fit the album, that's what he said. So I was like "whatever". For me, I'm just like.. my attitude is alot different than most people's .. I'm just about going out there, rockin the shows and making it happen. It's part of the logistic details of all the other bullshit, I don't even deal with that.
Ryan: My next question is, you guys have a pretty fair amount of merchandise out right now, but is there any more coming out any time soon that you know of?
Syn: We got some baby tees for the juggalettes out there, you know? So that way we can see some more tits in the crowd. And I think some lighters.. you know, like Psychopathic does. You know they always come out with some dope, fresh shit. Like I said, all that stuff goes down and I don’t even know nothing about it. Some how, I come in the warehouse and there’s new merch there.
Ryan: Ok.. and I know the WRIF has been playing you guy’s quite a lot, and I was curious if any other radio stations are playing you or if stuff’s being sent out to other radio stations.
Syn: Yeah, Lansing 92.1, there’s a couple Ohio stations that picked up and been spinning us. We’re out right now, trying to work on that right now, getting some radio love. Get the sound out there to the regular public, you know? For me, like I said, at the shows it’s all about, if there’s juggalos up in there, there’s five juggalos, I’m performing to those five juggalos. You know what I mean? The rest of those people, they can join me if they want. I told the rest to come on. But if they don’t come then that’s cool, that’s fuckin fine with me. But that’s why we’re out here now. Doing radio stuff, doing an in-store in Denver, and then we might do a pop-up headline show in Denver. Pick up a warm-up band and then we’ll do a show in Denver, cause there’s crazy love in Denver. Lots of fuckin juggalos up in there. And that’s what we’re doing, that’s what we’re out here doing right now. Bare bones meet and fuckin greet tour, that’s what this is, that’s what we’re calling it.
Ryan: Alright, my next question is on the Jumpsteady album and in the “Cracked Tiles” booklet, Ross Baker is mentioned. Who is that?
Syn: Ross Baker, that’s probably the dude that mastered the album. Is that who you’re talking about?
Ryan: I don’t know.. he was mentioned on the Jumpsteady album and in your cd booklet.
Syn: Yeah, I think he’s the cat. That’s that logistic shit again that I don’t deal with. But, I think he’s the cat who mastered the album.
Ryan: Ok, well that’s it for me. It’s on to Crystal.
Syn: Hell yeah, dog. Thanks.
Crystal: Zug Izland did "rock covers" of Assassins and Chicken Huntin’ at the Xmas Party of 2001. Is there any chance of maybe some sort of compilation CD, where Zug makes rock versions of older psychopathic songs? (sidenote: Pete, you are the shit.. thanks for the GREAT questions)
Syn: That would be dope as hell, yeah. If I could do it, or had the chance to do it.. I'm with it, that would be the shit.
Crystal: so it is something that you'd want to do?
Syn: That's something I would definately want to do. I mean, those songs are so dope, and to perform them like that, like at that party was just so dope. I would be crazy down to do that, and do like some Twiztid stuff, Blaze, everything. That would be the shit, Zug Izland tribute to Psychopathic. That's a good idea.
Crystal: ICP had a live band on stage a few years back. With you, Lil Pig & Mike P being featured on so much of The Wraith... is there any chance of that happening again?
Syn: I'm probably sure of it. Right now we are just trying to get out and make our own noise and not ride the coat tails of ICP or Twiztid or Blaze or ABK. We're trying to get out there and do our own thing and make our own fanbases and stuff like that. That's why we're not out on the tour now, we had talked about doing that, going out on the 6th tour and playing behind ICP, it was talked about but management made the decision to do this (refering to current tour they are on) as you guys know... Twiztid's out with Bone Thugs, Blaze is going out by himself, ICP's out with the 2 Live Crew, we're all split up right now, but I think something like that will happen and I would love for that to happen, that would be so dope.
Crystal: What artist or band would you most like to collaborate with on a song?
Syn: My homies at Psychopathic. That's it, anybody else I could really give a fuck about. Like, what would I say, Bono from U2 ... no, fuck no man. Violent J or Shaggy, that's who I'd want to collaborate with more.
Crystal: What can we expect as far as a set listing for the Kings X tour?
Syn: Well, definately playing some songs that you wouldn't know well. Opening up with Sunny Day, then we go to Suicide, then we run into The River, then we go into Hiroshima, and then we play Cry, and then we go to Prison Song, and then we go to SLAM, then we go out with War Pigs, you know we do a little tribute to Sabbith, and then we throw in Dreams here and there, if the crowd seems like they would be diggin' on it, we'll throw Dreams inbetween there. The set is changing each night, so we're just going to play the whole album.. as much as we can each different night.
Crystal: Can you give us any info on the new member of the band? Nobody really knows anything about him yet.
Syn: About B Nester Hendrix. That's his name, for real that's his name. Brian Nester Hendrix, he's the shit, straight up. This kids been with us for a month, we brought him in, he's friends with Lil' Pig, they've been friends from high school. Guido couldn't come out with us just because of health conditions and stuff like that, he didn't want the band to suffer, so B Nester.. the story behind that kid is he came on, Lil' Pig knew him, we brought him in. Right away I instantly clicked with the cat, smoked a doobie before he even played the bass and we talked. Got high, talked about his dreams and goals and everything, and we just clicked.. perfect. Went down to the studio, started jammin' and the fuckin kid is off the hook. I mean Guido is an amazing bass player and you can hear that all over the album, this kid brought another level to it. Are we a better band, no.. we're not a better band, we're still the same dope band that we were, but now we got a different bass player, and this kid brought a different sound. He's heavier, he plays bass with tinfoil on his finger, on his thumb and he's a slap bass player. He's the shit man, straight up. Zug Izland's got a different sound now, we're a touch heavier, but that's pretty much the story on B Nester. He's the fuckin shit and you'll see it for yourself when you come to the show and you can judge. Last night he fuckin, first show he came out and did with us he fuckin fell off the stage. He fell like inbetween the stage, actually fell in it. There's speakers around the front and he's standing up there rockin' the fuckin crowd, and didn't even give a fuck, fell down in the stage and kept playing, it was the shit.
Crystal: Any tour merchandise (tour shirts) ?
Syn: We talked about that, Tom Dubb.. he's working on that right now I guess. Once again that's all the other shit that I don't even talk about that stuff, or get involved in any of it. I'm just excited when I see new shit.
